Mary Cooper lives in the Deep South and prohibition is in full swing. Having been widowed by her no good, abusive husband she has to find a way to feed her children and pay the rent. She recruits a motley crew of fellow dirt-poor friends to embark on a desperate and dangerous mission to make moonshine while being hunted down by her landlord, the taxmen and the town's kingpins.
